Katherine Sokolik's Ring (circa 1920s)

This is a picture of one of Katherine (Kate) Sokolik's rings. Kate was the wife of John Sokolik. On the ring is a cameo of a woman with seed pearls surrounding it on a gold band. The setting looks to be handmade and has what we would call an estate jewelry look. A number of pieces of Kate's jewelry were passed onto Virginia who gave this piece to Jeanne as a memento. Jeanne had the ring sized to fit her.

There are some printed letters on the inside of the band which reads: PAT. AUG. 2. The next number looks like a 9 but it is not clear and the section where there would be a date has been worn smooth. There is definitely a period after PAT and after AUG. Probably this is short for Patent August 29 followed by a date which has been worn smooth. Best guess as to what follows is 19 the first part of a date or 14 which would be the last part of a date such as August 29, 1914. However, the year part is very speculative since it is very hard to see anything at all.

Upon re-examining, it appears that the ring part around the finger with the patent mark may be a standardized gold ring that a jeweler used to create the setting. In this case the pearls and the cameo.
