Vanderkloots and Kaans - New Year's Day, January 1, 1900
Cornelius Vanderkloot (born 1870 in De Cocksdorp, Texel, Netherlands) married Gertrude Kaan (born Anna Polona Polder, Netherlands). They were married in Chicago in 1893. This is a photograph of Cornelius, possibly two of his brothers, various Kaan brothers, and one of the Kramers. The Kramer family worked in the blacksmith shop in Texel and came with the Vanderkloots to Chicago.

Anne Kaufman provided the following information:

Second Row:

  1. unknown
  2. Pete Kaan
  3. John VanderKloot, probably Cornelius' younger brother born in 1873
  4. Matthijs Vanderkloot - this name was cut off - all I can read is Mat...and Van...- I assume it is Matthijs VanderKloot, side note that says "Great Uncle Tyce".

Front Row:

  1. ? Kramer, probably either Rhinderd or William
  2. Cornelius VanderKloot
  3. Rance Kaan
John Vanderkloot is probably Cornelius' younger brother who was born in 1873. Matthijs VanderKloot is Cornelius' older brother who was born in 1863. Cornelius, Matthijs, and John, the three youngest brothers came over with their parents, Matthijs and Trijntje Vanderkloot in 1886.

Frederick Vanderkloot provided the date of the photograph as New Year's Day 1900. The men are toasting in the new century. Frederick commented on the photo as follows. "My father, Frederic's, middle name was Rance. I have been curious where that came from since it does not seem to be in the VanderKloot tradition. The 1900 photo includes a Rance Kaan who would appear to be my father's uncle, my grandmother Kaan's brother. Mystery solved."

Anne Kaufman, a g-granddaughter of Cornelius and Gertrude Vanderkloot provided a copy of this picture to Dave Jordan in 2004. Frederick Vanderkloot is the grandson of Cornelius and Gertrude Vanderkloot. If you would like to add information about this picture, please contact Dave Jordan, a gg-grandson of Matthijs and Trijntje Vanderkloot. The Picture Reference Number is AK01.
