This is a picture of the inscription and a sample page from Martha Tanis's bible from when she was about 13 years old. The inscription reads "Dit boekje [behoren] aan Martha Tanis A. Oud 13 yaar 1871." Which translates to "This book [belongs] to Martha Tanis 13 years old, 1871."

Martha Tanis was born March 28, 1857, so she would have been 13 until late March 1871. The "A." in Martha Tanis A. is thought to be a patronymic reference to her father Aart. Also shown is a page from Matthew in her bible.
