- From a property evaluation for the townland of Killlyfassy in the Ballymachugh parish taken some time around 1876-1881, William Knowles' name was crossed out and replaced by Jane Knowles. This suggested an approximate time period of death and that Jane was his wife. By the 1885 evaluation, Jane's name is no longer there, and a William McClean was being "taxed" for the property that was formerly in the name of William and Jane Knowles.
- Given the property information and that William Knowles had died between 1876 and 1881, a search was made for what I believed was the William Knowles that married Jane Wallace.

- When the record arrived, it was found that the age of this man was much older than expected.
- However, from the William Knowles and Jane Wallace's marriage registration it was known that William's father's name was William and that he was a farmer
- Research also shows there were relatively few Knowles in Cavan County at the time.
- Thus, it is believed that this is the father of the William Knowles that married Jane Wallace. However, other records need to be checked.
- It is also conceivable that this is the William Knowles that married Jane Wallace, but if so he was 50 years old when he married Jane.
- Based on the year of death and age, this William Knowles was born in 1798, possibly in Scotland.
