Thomas Black married Margaret Leddy on 16 July 1851 at St. Francois Xavier (Catholic Church), Chicoutimi, Quebec, Canada Thomas Black re-married Margaret Leddy on 26 October 1851 in an Anglican or Presbyterian Church on Grosse Ile, Quebec, Canada

**Marriage Record Comments**
Thomas Black married Margarite Leddy on 26 July 1851 at the Parish of St. Francois Xavier, Chicoutimi, Quebec, Canada. The marriage Record states: “marriage between Thomas Black, of the religion Protestant and Margarite Leddy, Catholic.” The original St. Francois Xavier Church, Chicoutimi was established in 1847. It has been rebuilt 3 times and is currently a Cathredral. The locations is: 514, rue Racine Est, Chicoutimi, QC and overlooks the old port area of the town. Chicoutimi is the most populous borough of the city of Saguenay in Quebec, Canada. Chicoutimi was founded as a city in 1842 at the confluence of the Saguenay and Chicoutimi rivers.	Thomas Black re-married Margaret Leddy 26 October 1851 on Grosse Ile, Quebec, Canada at a presumed Anglican or Presbyterian church as the original records states they were previously married in a Catholic Church. The date of 26 October 1851 is a little over three months later. Grosse Ile is about 200 miles by water upstream from Chicoutimi, Quebec, Canada and about 30 miles east of Quebec. At the time it was the place where immigrants landed to be processed. Shortly before, particularly 1847 many Irish immigrants died there due to contagious diseases. It is presumed Thomas wanted to also be married in his own church. But I also wonder whether their journey there might also be a nostalgia visit to Margaret's possible arrival there from Ireland or if it is might be connected to her parents in some way.

**Burial Record Comments**
It is not known which contagious disease she had. Her daughter Isabella died in 1892 of cholera and her son-in-law Williams Knowles died in 1897 of tuberculosis.

**Cemetery Map**
The Thomas and Margaret family plot is in the Mount Royal Cemetery in Montreal. The plot is Section C, graves 853-G & H. It is registered in the name of Thomas Black Besides Thomas and Margaret two of their children, 3 Knowles grandchildren, and 1 Cameron child, probably a grandchild is buried there.	The 853 plot is in section C-6. During the summer of 1994 on a family trip to Montreal the Jordan family tried to find the grave. The Mount Royal Cemetery is a beautiful old cemetery high on a hill to the north and a little west of downtown Montreal. Unfortunately, the official grave markers in this area of the cemetery are very hard to find. Since we had so much trouble, we asked for help from the office and they kindly went out with us. After much searching we believe we found the spot, but it was covered in overgrowth. No grave marker was found and there was no close cemetery property marker to reference to. It is possible we were in the wrong place. We did take a picture of where we thought the spot was and said a prayer for our relatives from long ago.

**Cemetery Record Comments**
The Thomas and Margaret Black Family Plot contain not only their own graves and some of their young children but also grandchildren via two daughters. William Wallce Knowles married Isabella Black, daughter of Thomas and Margaret Black in January 1877 and children Isabella Maud and William Ralph Knowles are buried in the Thomas and Margaret Black Family Plot.	It is presumed that John A. Cameron, son of John Cameron who married Mary Black who was the daughter of Thomas and Margaret Black. The typo ROLPH was correct to RALPH in the transcription.
