Originally this photo was thought to be the 1900 New Years' celebration. However, in early 2007, Betsy Strand, gg-grandaughter of Matthijs and Trijntje Vanderkloot wrote: "The photo of all the old VanderKloots is not a New Years' Eve party, but a celebration of the golden anniversary of Mathias and Tryntje in 1901." ... "Corine Van der Kloot Taylor told me about the 50th anniverary photo, as did my mother." Matthijs and Trijntje van der Kloot were married 15 November 1851 in Zijpe, Noord Holland, Netherlands. Adrianus van der Kloot was their first of 12 children. Most of their children came to Chicago to work for their uncle Marinus Vanderkloot at the South Halsted Street Iron Works. Matthijs and Trijntje came in 1886. Most likely the photo is on or around 15 November 1901, which was a Friday. Given the purpose of the celebration it is possilbe all those in the photo are direct descendants of Adrianus and Trijntje Vanderkloot, which explains why some of the wives of the identified Vanderkloot sons can't be found in the photo. However, there should be many more descendants than shown as just Adrianus and Martha Vanderkloot had 6 children and none can be found in this photo. Perhaps the actual photo is wider. |
