Welcome to Our Knowles Family web pages!

The focus of Our Knowles Family Web Pages web pages is the genealogy and history of William and Jane Knowles of Cavan, Ireland, their children, and their children's children.

At the head of our clan is William Knowles, born about 1810 somewhere in Ireland or Scotland. William Knowles married Jane Wallace in 1847 in Ireland at St. Patrick's Kildrumferton church pictured above. William and Jane had at least two children, William Wallace Knowles and Robert Knowles and both emigrated to North America.

In our Knowles line there are at least 4 generations of males named William Knowles and two had wives named Jane. So it can all get a bit confusing.

Our William Wallace Knowles was a charter member of the Canadian Northwest Mounted Police (NWMP). He was part of the initial group that traveled west on horseback in 1874 to Alberta where they established forts and protected the Indians from the whiskey traders.

Through exploring Our Knowles Family web pages you'll understand the origins of our Knowles family. We'll do this through family charts, letters, maps, photos, records and family recollections. And then all these pieces are brought together in The Knowles Story.

William and Jane Knowles' children and grandchildren married into a number of other families such as the Jordan and Leonhardt families and Our Knowles Family web pages provides some information about these families also.

Your primary author and webmaster for Our Knowles Family web pages is Dave Jordan, a gg-grandson of William and Jane Knowles of Cavan County Ireland. Dave's been researching his Knowles line since 1975.
