Death Certificate Comments
  • The Gainowskis used a variety of spellings for their name. They used Gainoski for Joseph's death certificate.
  • The about 64 years, suggests a year of birth of about 1844; however the 1900 Census suggest March 1846.
  • The 21 years in Chicago, suggests a year of arrival of about 1887 in Chicago; however, they may have stayed in Boston for a short while. The 1900 Census suggest they immigrated to the USA about October or November 1886.
  • It appears a couple of digits were reversed in the address, it should be 1540 W. 49th Pl. The Ganowksys lived at that address since 1893 and thus the death certificate home address is probably in error.
  • St. Maria Cemetery is St. Mary's Cemetery in Evergreen Park.

Internment Record Comments
  • This is a transcription of the St. Augustine Internment Record.
  • The date of death as January 7 appears to be in error, it should be the 8th.
  • Geinofski is a phonetic spelling of Gainowski.
  • The age of 62 matches a date of birth of March 1846.

Tombstone Comments
  • The above is a transcription of the Gainowski Tombstone at St. Mary's Cemetery.
  • Of interest is the spelling of Gainowski as Geinosky and not Gainosky as in both of their death certificates. Certainly some thought went into this choice of spellings as it was put into granite.
