The June 4, 1977 letter from E. Th. R. Unger on behalf of the Rijksarchivaris in Noord-Holland provided a copy of the Birth Record and extracted and provided the following information in English:
 
"Trijntje Smit, born May 2, 1832, not in the island of Texel, but in the municipality of Zijpe (possibly in Kleine Sluis - Little Sluice in English). Her parents: Klaas Smit and Aagtje Teun."

Birth Record Comments
  • Alette Schodrof's Story indicates Trijntje was born in Kleine Sluis.
  • Various spellings show Trijntje spelled with a "y" or and "i".



Marriage Record

"Matthijs van der Kloot and Trijntje Smit (Zijpe, November 15, 1851). At the time the parents of Matthijs van der Kloot were still alive and resident in the island of Texel, Aagtje Teun, being a widow, lived in Zijpe."

Marriage Record Comments
  • The actual marriage record is rather long and written in long hand. There may well be other interesting information written in it, but it is in Dutch.
  • Various spellings show Trijntje spelled with a "y" or and "i".

A January 19, 1978 letter from the Gemeente Secretarie van Texel provided the following information from the Population Registers for the Vanderkloots:
  • Matthijs van der Kloot born on January 8, 1827 at Middelharnis, his religion was Reformed, his profession as black smith; he was married with
  • Trijntje Smit born on May 21, 1832 at Oude Sluis.
    • Adrianus born April 16, 1852 at Texel. He left for Anna Paulowna on July 13, 1877.
    • Klaas van der Kloot born on February 5, 1854 at Texel. He left for Brouwershaven on April 28, 1876.
    • Marinus van der Kloot born on April 10, 1855 at Texel. He left for Winkel on May 13, 1879.
    • Aagje van der Kloot born on February 22, 1857 at Texel.
    • Pieter van der Kloot born on April 1, 1860 at Texel.
    • Maatje van der Kloot born on February 13, 1862 at Texel.
    • Matthijs van der Kloot born on July 21, 1863 at Texel.
    • Maria van der Kloot born on December 5, 1865 at Texel, she died January 8, 1869 at Texel.
    • Jannetje van der Kloot born on August 10, 1868 at Texel.
    • Cornelius van der Kloot born on December 3, 1870 at Texel.
    • Jan van der Kloot born on December 10, 1873 at Texel.
    • Jacob van der Kloot born on September 25, 1876 at Texel. He died December 5, 1876.
  • They were all reformed.

  • Matthijs and Trijntje arrived in March 1886; thus 29 years in Chicago is correct.
  • Aagge Teun should be Aagtje Teun.
  • Myocarditis is an inflammation of the muscle tissue of the heart.
  • Near the end,Tryntje Vanderkloot moved in with her daughter Jannetje Eelman who resided at 7733 S. Morgan and stayed with her during 1914 and 1915.

Teijlemaker, Marinus, Mrs. J. A. Elman, Cornelius, and the late John Vanderkloot. Funeral from daughter's residence, 7733 S. Morgan at Tuesday December 28 at 2 p. m. By auto to Oakwoods.

  • Mrs. H. Kooger is their daughter Aagje, Mrs. P. Teijlemaker is their daughter Maatje, Mrs. J. A. Elman is their daughter Jannetje Eelman.
  • Near the end,Tryntje Vanderkloot moved in with her daughter Jannetje Eelman who resided at 7733 S. Morgan and stayed with her during 1914 and 1915. Thus the funeral was in the home of her daughter Jannetje Eelman.

Tombstone Comments
  • The Matthijs and Tryntje Vanderloot family plot is at the Oakwoods Cemetery in Chicago, Illinois. The Oakwoods Cemetery is between 67th and 71st Streets and Cottage Grove on the South Side of Chicago.
  • There are three roughly identical granite gravestones about 2 foot wide, 18 inches deep and about 1 foot high each all in a row. On top of each respectively is written: MOTHER, SON, FATHER. On the polished front face is written the words transcribed above.
  • John their son died about age 36. He never married and regularly was shown in the Chicago Directory as living in the same home as his parents.
  • There is a picture of the tombstones in the Matthijs and Trijntje Picture Collection.
  • The Vanderkloot Cemetery Plot B-4-532 is fairly large at 17 foot 2 inches by 12 foot 1 inch. The plot is owned by Matthew A. and Peter Vanderkloot, sons of Matthijs and Trijntje Vanderkloot. Matthijs (1827-1905), (Trijntje 1832-1915) and son John (1873-1910) are buried in this plot. Also in the same plot are: Peter and Bertha (nee Dros) Vanderkloot, Trijntje (infant daughter of Peter and Bertha), infant Taylor (daughter of Harry and Corinne Taylor), and a child named Mary Kooger.
  • Besides the gravestone for Matthijs, Trijntje, and John, there is also a gravestone for Peter 1860-1939 and Bertha 1867-1944.
  • Nearby the plot is another gravestone for Marinus (1855-1941) and Mary (nee Boom) (1859-1941).

  • A request was made on March 16, 1977 of the Clerk of the Circuit Court, Probate Division for Cook County, Illinois to search for the last will and testament, distribution of estate and inventory list for Tryntje Vanderkloot who died on December 25, 1915.
  • The response was "We are unable to find any record of probate on the estate of the person name herein, in the Probate Court of Cook County, Illinois. They wrote "1911-1928, no Est (Estate)".
