The focus of Our Filipek Family web pages is the genealogy and history of Antonín and Katerina Filípek of Kolence, Bohemia, their children, and their children's children.

The surname Filípek uses the Latin letter í (called a iacute). Going forward, these web pages will use unaccented Latin letters. However, it was thought useful on this introductory page to show the name with the original accent marks.

At the head of our clan is Antonín Filípek, born in 1815 on the Filípek Family Farm in Kolence, Bohemia, a farm which had been in the Filípek family since 1577. The Filípek Farm Courtyard water color above shows the interior courtyard of the Filipek Farm.

Antonín married Katerina Ceckova in 1849 and they had eight children. Three of the children emigrated to Minnesota, one to Chicago, one died in infancy, and three stayed in Bohemia, now part of the Czech Republic.

One of Antonín and Katerina Filípek's sons, Jan emigrated to Minnesota in the early 1870s and settled in Montgomery. Then in May 1879 daughter Anna who had married Frantisek Sokolik emigrated to Montgomery, Minnesota nearby her brother Jan. A few months later, daughter Katerina emigrated to be with them and a few months later she married Frantisek Jana.

Antonín and Katerina Filípek's son Vaclav was born in born in 1863 in Kolence. In 1884, he married my g-grandmother Katerina Nemec and in 1889 they emigrated to Chicago, although the story is much more complicated than this. For the full story you'll need to explore Our Filipek Family web pages.

In addition, a number of grandsons and granddaughters of Antonín and Katerina Filípek also emigrated to the United States, primarily Minnesota and Chicago.
