Francis married Ernest H. Hollinshead on either July 8 or July 11, 1922 in Los Angeles which was a month later than the June 1922 stated in the March 31, 1922 Suburbanite Economist. Perhaps there were a number of delays given travel from Chicago or other issues. The sign above them Be Good To US, We have Gone and Done (It?) Holly & Jordan suggests some frustration in making it happen. Whatever the case, their marriage was long and they celebrated their 50th on July 8, 1972.

Who’s Who in the Photo
Front row standing left to right:

  1. Unknown woman, Ernest H. Hollinshead has his arm around. Some choices are: 1) his mother, Florence Pierce Hollingshead who could be a young looking 48, but then where is Ernest’s father. Unless the couple to the right of Florence are his parents. 2) Another possibility is the woman is a girlfriend of Florence who accompanied her to LA from Chicago and was her Maid of Honor. But there could be other possibilities.
  2. 2. Ernest H. Hollinshead in dark suit with lots of hair and left arm around his bride
  3. Frances Florence Jordan Hollingshead
  4. The rest are unknown but most likely Hollinshead family and friends. I thought Frances’ mother or a brother might have come to the wedding but she is not in the photo. Back then a Chicago to LA train ride was only reduced to 63 hours in 1926 and in 1922 was very close to 3 days. Certainly a challenge if the wedding date kept shifting.

My indecision on whether they were married on July 8 or July 11, 1922 is due to two factors:

  1. The Tuesday July 11, 1922 date was prompted by an entry in the Los Angeles Index to Marriages. In that Index, the date is shown as Jul 11, 1922. However, on closer inspection the date is recorded under a column labeled When Recorded as opposed to When Married. The index points to Where Recorded which in their case was Book 420 Page 224.
  2. Their 50th Anniversary Wedding Photo is labeled July 8, 1972, a Saturday.
In 1922, July 8, 1922 was also a Saturday and a more likely day for a wedding than a Tuesday especially with all their family and friends in attendance. Thus I believe their likely wedding date was July 8, 1922. The actual record would of course clarify this.

The Leonhardt family gave this photo to Dave Jordan in the late 1980s. Muriel Leonhardt was Margaret Jordan Graham's sister.
