This photo shows Frances Florence Jordan standing in a park across from a number of 3-story stone buildings. She has her hands in her skirt pocket. Frances was the only daughter of James Oscar Jordan and Margaret Jane Knowles. Frances was born July 3, 1900 in Chicago.

After the November, 1911 separation of her parents, Frances and her four brother lived with her mother Margaret in various locales on the south side of Chicago. In June 1920 her mother, Margaret Jane Jordan married Robert Graham.

Around the time of the photo, Frances’ mother, Margaret Jordan lived at 50 W. Marquette Avenue in 1916. Marquette Avenue back then had a large parkway between the two lanes of traffic which may be the grass Frances is standing on. In 1917, Florence’s mother moved to 7015 Princeton and to 7007 Normal in 1918. However, all these locations are a short walk to the grassy median on Marquette Ave.

Florence appears younger in this photo than in her engagement photos when she was age 21. In this photo, she appears to be 16-19 years old. It is a difficult choose, but 18 seems about right. The time of year appears to be late Spring or early Summer. Perhaps a reasonable guess would be her 18th Birthday - July 3, 1918, though that date could easily be a year or so off.

Beverly Lynch inherited this portrait from her father Charles J. Jordan, the 3rd son of James Oscar Jordan and brother of Frances Florence Jordan. In the late 1980s, Beverly gave this photo to Dave Jordan as part of his genealogy research into the Jordan family.
