This Post Card photograph shows James Oscar Jordan and his children gathered in front of a house where the prayer meeting took place with a large number of adults and children. Similar to the Jordan at Prayer Meeting Table photo, this photograph was on a postcard and probably was taken the same day as a photographer was there.

Jordan Locations in Photo:

  1. Charles (age 6) is on the left side with his arm twisted around the post.
  2. Herbert (age 11) is on the far right with his hands on a kid in front of him.
  3. On the bottom steps are Arthur (about age 5), Edward (about age 8) and Frances (about age 9) with her hand on her father, James Oscar Jordan (age 42) with mustache and high hat standing in front on the right side.

Of interest is Frances' fashionable hat, Arthur's knickers and James Oscar Jordan's vest and pocket watch. Given the long coats and lack of shrubbery and women’s hats, it is probably early spring. As a rough estimate I chose Sunday, April 3, 1910, the week after Easter that year.

James Oscar was born February 18, 1868 in Poplar, England. Herbert was born July 24, 1898; Frances was born July 3, 1900; Edward was born March 25, 1902; Charles was born October 16, 1903; and Arthur was born March 1, 1905. All the children were born in Chicago. None of the woman appear to be Margaret Jordan, the Jordan children's mother.

Beverly Lynch inherited this photograph from her father Charles J. Jordan who was the 3rd son of James Oscar Jordan. In the late 1980s, she gave this portrait to Dave Jordan. The back of the photo is labeled with the various Jordan names.
