Since it was in a frame, it was difficult to obtain a good photo or scan for my digital collection. Thus, in June 2025, I took apart the frame for a scan. I also hoped I might discover whether it was an original or if my mom had it reproduced when she had several Vanderkloot photos framed in the late 1970s. What I found was this photo was glued to a 1/16-inch-thick board and impossible to remove without total destruction. The print was the thickness of a usual print, but the shape and size were different. There were small radius-rounded corners, and the print measured 3 7/16″ x 5 3/8″, an unusual size. A web search indicated that the photographic era that utilized prints 3 7/16″ x 5 3/8″ was primarily associated with the early to mid-20th century. Thus, this print matched a timeframe when the portrait was taken. Likely, many prints were made for Martha’s children and others..
The source of this particular photo most likely came from Grace Vanderkloot Filipek’s Photo Collection, Martha’s 2nd daughter. If you would like to add information about this portrait, please contact Dave Jordan, a great-grandson of Adrianus and Martha Vanderkloot. The Picture Reference Number is JCJ06a.
