This is a portrait of Grace Vanderkloot, 2nd daughter of Adrianus and Martha Vanderkloot, at about 12 to 18 months old. She was born on August 7, 1894, in Chicago. In this portrait, Grace is in a white dress and is by the edge of a stuffed couch or chair. It is possible the dress is a christening gown. As the 2nd daughter, by Dutch tradition, she was named Trijntje (Tryntje) after her paternal grandmother. But by school age and to blend into American life, she began using Grace. In those days before formal birth records, I presume the family just decided on the renaming. The earliest known contemporary record available, the June 1900 Census, lists her as Grace.

Assuming Grace is between 12–18 months old, then the range of the photo is between August 1895 and February 1896. But given the short sleeves and a special occasion, it is probably close to her 1st birthday, August 7, 1895.

Dick Denker, Jeanne Jordan, and Harry Schodrof identified the photograph as Grace. The fleck in Grace's right eye is on the original photograph.

Dave Jordan took this photograph at Dick Denker's 1988 Vanderkloot Reunion in Crystal Lake, Illinois, from a photograph brought by Robert Vanderkloot of Michigan.
