This is a portrait of Martha Vanderkloot with her daughters: Alette (October 8, 1891), Grace (August 7, 1894), and Marie (October 8, 1899). All were born in Chicago. Martha Vanderkloot was born on March 28, 1857, in Haarlemmermeer, Noord Holland, Netherlands.

It is thought that Marie is about six years old, suggesting a year of 1905. If the date of the photo was around Marie’s and Alette’s October 1905 birthdays, Alette would be 14, Grace would be 11, and their mother, Marie, would be 48 years old.

This portrait hung in my Grandma Grace Filipek’s room at my parents’ home in Wheaton, Illinois. With my interest in family history beginning in the 1975-76, my mom became more interested in her Vanderkloot roots. I believe after the July 1977 Vanderkloot Reunion at Dick Denker’s, Jeanne asked to borrow a few portraits from Dick Denker and Harry Schodrof and have them reproduced and professionally framed. Grandma Grace also had some in her collection. After Grandma Grace Filipek passed in 1979, all the framed photos continued to be hung on the same wall until my mom’s passing in 2018. At which time I became the inheritor.

Jeanne Jordan had this copy photographically reproduced from either Harry Schodrof’s or Dick Denker's original. If you would like to add information about this portrait, please contact Dave Jordan, a great-grandson of Adrianus and Martha Vanderkloot. The Picture Reference Number is JCJ04a1.
