This is a portrait of Matthijs Vanderkloot. Matthijs was born on 8 January 1827 in Middelharnis, Goeree-Overflakkee, Zuid-Holland. Trijntje Smit was born on 2 May 1832 in Oude Sluis, Zijpe, Netherlands. They were married on 15 November 1851 in Zijpe, Noord Holland.

Based on his look in the “Trijntje and Matthijs Vanderkloot in the Park Closeup - Summer 1897” and that Trijntje and Matthijs had individual portraits taken for their 40th Wedding Anniversary in 1891, there is a good possibility that this is Matthijs Vanderkloot’s 50th Anniversary Portrait taken on or about their 50th anniversary on November 15, 1901.

There is also a companion Trijntje Vanderkloot’s 50th Anniversary Portrait. See also their “Matthijs and Trijntje Vanderkloot’s Golden Wedding Anniversary - November 15, 1901”. Matthijs Vanderkloot’s jacket appears to be the same as in the “Trijntje and Matthijs Vanderkloot Closeup - Summer 1897” but in this photo, he has all the buttons closed as if it is cold outside, thus matching a November time of the year.

Another possibility is that this could be Matthijs’ 70th birthday portrait, January 8, 1997. But I tend to believe this portrait is more likely for their 50th in 1901 as each would have had a separate portrait as they did for their 40th.
