At first I assumed, this photo was taken in the Los Angeles area given that is where Margaret lived in those years. But as I stared at the park, with the long grass and the trees with low full crowns, it had the look of being a Chicago area park. This makes some sense as it was known that Margaret and her husband Bob came traveled to Chicago for the 1933 World’s Fair and that is where the pictured relatives lived. It also made sense in that if the photo was taken in the Los Angeles area, Muriel, Dolores and Emily would have had to travel to Los Angeles from Chicago. Probably the location was near where Muriel lived at the time and perhaps a weekend or the 4th of July, 1933 if a large family outing.
For the three photos during during Bob and Margaret Grahams’s World’s Fair visit, the exact months and days are unknown. The Fair opened May 27, 1933 and continued until Oct 31, 1934. I’ve assumed they came in the summer of 1933 and most likely late June and early July as temperatures would have been more pleasant than later in July or August. The 1933 World’s Fair was located at Northerly Island near the Shedd Aquarium.
Assuming the summer of 1933, Margaret would have been 55, Dolores 22, Emily 31 and Muriel 47 which seems about right for how they look in the photo.
