This portrait of Margaret Graham was taken in California in the late 1940s. The photographer was May Studio in Los Angeles.

Margaret, formerly Margaret Knowles became Margaret Jordan after her first marriage and then Margaret Graham after her 2nd marriage. Margaret regularly indicated she was born on March 19, 1878 in Montreal though her christening record indicates April 19.

Some Possible Portrait Occasions:

  1. Her 70th birthday - March 19, 1948
  2. Her 30th wedding anniversary to Bob Graham - June 28, 1950
  3. Mother’s Day of an unknown year.

My best guess is the portrait was taken for her 70th Birthday, usually a milestone birthday. The exact date of that birthday would have been March 19, 1948. It seemed that if it was Margaret’s and Bob Graham’s 30th wedding anniversary, there would be a portrait with both of them.

The white corsage with what appears to be a small rose might swing the date choice to a particular Mother’s Day, but it also might have been part of the 70th birthday celebration with her husband and children.

Margaret Graham gave this portrait to her sister Muriel who lived in Chicago. Later, the Leonhardt family gave this portrait to Dave Jordan in the late 1980s. Muriel Leonhardt is Margaret's sister.
