Family Chart Notes
  1. Clicking individual names under the Parent's/Children's column transfers to that individual's Family Chart.
  2. The original spelling of Nicolai is uncertain. Variants include Nicolei and Nicolay. The ship's manifest records and the earliest church records in Chicago use Nicolai, but the family appears to have settled on Nicolei after the turn of the 20th century.
  3. Elizabeth M. Jordan (1895), daughter of John and Anna Pajewski and granddaughter of Paul and Elizabeth Pajewski thought Veronica Nicolai was a half sister of Mike, Frank and John Pajewski and that her maiden name was sounded like "Rode". From Veronica's children's baptismal records Veronica's maiden name was found to be spelled as "Rhode. " As a half sister, she had the same mother as Michael, Frank and John Pajewski but a different father.
  1. The listing of the children for Martina and Veronica came from a number sources. Only Anna and Bertha were listed on the ship record Nederland. Martin, John, Joseph, and Martha ages 3-9 were not listed. Perhaps they were left behind while the parents investigated the new country and then sent for them later or perhaps they had died by 1883. Given a 2nd Martin born in 1891 it is likely the first Martin died before 1891 and possibly before 1883.
  2. The identifictaion of the names Martin, John, Joseph, Martha, and Wilhelmina and date and place of birth was obtained in 2009 from a Family Search - Family Group Record. The same record provided birth, marriage, and death dates for Martin and Veronica Nicolai and birth and death dates for Mary Veronica Nicolai. The spelling used was Nicolei which I changed to Nicolai as I believe that spelling was used during those times. It appears a descendant provided the Family Group Record but it is not known whom, although a guess would be a descendant of Mary Veronica as hers was the only with a death date shown.
  3. Dave Jordan (me) found the baptismal information for Mary and Martin (1891). Some information on Martin Nicolai born 1891 was also provided by his g-grandson Dan.
  4. Given all of the above from multiple sources, it is possible that some of the children's names listed are the same people who used slightly different names on different records. And Minnie and Wilhelmina seem out of order from the anticipated Prussia - Michigan - Wisconsin - Chicago migration.
