Birth Record
Island of Texel, Noord Holland

The March 25, 1977 letter from E. Th. R. Unger on behalf of the Rijksarchivaris in Noord-Holland provided a copy of the Birth Record and extracted and provided the following information in English:
"Adrianus van der Kloot, born April 16, 1852 at Eyerland (in the neighborhood of De Cocksdorp) in the island of Texel"
A rough English translation of the Birth Registration is as follows:

- The above mentioned Civil Servant
- M. van der Kloot

Birth Record Comments
  • The translation was done using a Dutch English Dictionary from a Xerox copy of the original script.
  • There are probably a number of errors in the translation but it was thought useful to get a better feel for what was on the birth certificate.
  • The letter from Unger clearly states the date of birth as April 16. I cannot explain completely the date interpreted as April 17 in my reading of the script. Most likely it was just a translation error on my part.

  • There are a few errors in the death record.

  • The number of years in the U. S. should be 53 and not 51 as Adrianus came in 1881.
  • Also Adrianus most likely worked more than 40 years. In 1920 he would have been 68 years old. Most likely he worked since he was 18.
  • Adrianus's mother's name was Trijntje not Terra.
  • Myocarditis is an inflammation of the muscle tissue of the heart.
