The two lines come together at Cornelius Dirksz Tanis. Cornelius had two wives. His first wife was Caatje Tijsdr. Heerschap. Their 2nd son, Paulus Tanis, born in 1793 fostered Shirley's line. After Caatje died, Cornelius married Geertruida Everts van der Sluijs and their first son son, Dirk, born in 1802 and who later married Cornelia, fostered Dave Jordan's line and the focal point of Dave Jordan's Our Tanis Family Web Pages. Of course there are many other families involved, but I have presented this description to explain which lines are the focus in these two sets of Tanis Web Pages.
