Records Search Plan - Filipek Families

As follows are record searches that could provide additional knowledge about our Filipek family and the families they married into such as the Jana, Kandl, Nemec, Palecek, and Sokolik families. Items listed are future investigations and are not likely to be available soon. You may wish to contact Dave to determine the status of an item or volunteer to pursue it. In some limited cases, the Family History Library Films page may list a research film number for a search item below.

Filipek Family

Vaclav (James) Filipek
  1. Certified Birth and Baptismal Records: since this was our ancestor
  2. Marriage Record: Katerina Nemec married James (Vaclav) Filipek in January 1884 location unknown, but thought to be Bohemia. Record would clarify where the marriage took place and to gain insight into how many times Vaclav and Katerina went back and forth across the Atlantic.
  3. Will Search for James Filipek: Redo
  4. Translation of passages from Vaclav's Agronomics Journal: to see what it says. Terry believes that it is primarily notes from class and results of experiments.
  5. 2956 Emerald Deed: to obtain dates of purchase and sale
  6. 3001 Emerald Deed: to obtain dates of purchase and sale
Katherine Filipek (nee Nemec)
  1. Certified Birth and Baptismal Records: since this was our ancestor and to verify the exact year of birth so that this data can be added to her gravestone.
  2. Ship Arrival Records for 1914: As of November 2002, a second page of data could not be found in the Ellis Island on-line database that corresponded to the first page. Microfilm records should be consulted for the September 15, 1914 arrival of the Potsdam at Elllis Island to determine if there is additional data for Katerina Filipek.
  3. Riverside Deed: to obtain dates of purchase and sale.
  4. See also Nemec Research Plans Index.

James A. Filipek
  1. Grade School Records at Brennan: Searched but not found. Note that St. John Nepomucene had a grade school. Perhaps he went there.
  2. Graduation Record from Wendell Phillips: James A. Filipek was not found in the 1910 Wendell Phillips Yearbook. It is guessed that he might have graduated in 1909, 1911 or 1912. Or perhaps he graduated in January 1910 and did not make the Yearbook.
  3. Year Books from Wendell Phillips: 1910 has been searched. Continue to try for 1909, 1911 and 1912. Note Chicago Historical Society does not have any before 1920.
  4. Graduation Records from John Marshall:
  5. Selective Service Records: James A. Filipek's Draft Registration record is on this site, but it would be good to get a better scan.
