  1. Jemima Mary Steward born 26 March 1846 in Poplar, England
  2. Louisa Steward born 26 April 1848 in Poplar, England

Jemima Mary Miller

  1. Henry Steward born about 1853-1854; shown on 1861 census; unknown father as Robert Melville Steward had died by the time of his birth. Tradition at the time was to take the surname of the mother which by then was Jemima Steward.

Notes:

  1. Three variants have now been seen for Robert Steward’s middle name: Melvin, Melville, and Melbourne. It is not clear if he changed it or if there were misunderstandings when it was written.
  2. A May 2019 search of the GRO BMD index indicated a Robert Steward who died in Poplar in 1Q1853, Bolume 1C, Page 468. A copy of the Death Registration was obtained. Unfortunately, it is not a match for our Robert Melville Steward. The "Robert Steward" found was 1 year old, and his father was William Steward, a grocer. However, the address was 48 Robin Hood Lane, which was in the same general neighborhood as many of the Stewards in our Steward line.
